Computer Health Information

In an effort to provide our customers with the resources necessary for safe Internet and computer use, we have created links to information regarding safety and security on the Internet.  We recommend that all our customers install anti-virus software on their computers, but one of the simplest ways to avoid getting a virus is to never execute an e-mail attachment from someone that you do not know.

Hoaxbusters from CIAC

CIAC stands for Computer Incident Advisory Capability and the site is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.  (Be aware that when you visit this site you are subject to security monitoring and testing.)  The CIAC home page may be of some use to you, but probably not as much as the Hoaxbusters page.  This should be one of the first places you look if you receive a virus warning or chain letter that looks suspicious, but may be legitimate.  They maintain a huge database (searchable by subject or name) of e-mail hoaxes.  So before you forward that chain letter to save your friends' computers from the latest virus scare, check here to see if it's real or just a hoax.

Command Software Systems

This site is excellent for checking out the latest virus warnings.  You can also either download and purchase their anti-virus software, or download the latest virus updates if you already operate their software.

Data Fellow - Computer Virus Information

This was the first anti-virus Web site ever, and according to Data Fellow, is considered "the industry standard source for up-to-date information on new viruses and hoax alerts".  It is updated several times a week.

Dr. Solomon - Virus Central

Don't mind the scary graphic on the first page; this site is very user-friendly and easy to navigate.  Dr. Solomon is affiliated with McAfee, so some of this Web site overlaps with some of McAfee's.  Dr. Solomon has a mailing list you can sign up for to get the latest updates on viruses.

McAfee Anti-Virus Page

McAfee has several different sites that present their products and information, but this page is the easiest to use.  The Virus Information Library and their Anti-Virus Tips are the most helpful features of this site.

Symantec Security Updates

Symantec makes the leading anti-virus software: Norton Anti-Virus.  This link will take you to Symantec's Security Update page, but you can also search the site and buy their products by following the links on the page.
