Linux PPP Configuration
Note: The following configures Slackware 3.4 or better using PPPSetup script
v1.98.
1. As root, type "pppsetup" at a console prompt.
2. Hit Enter, type "atdt" then enter the local access number in
your area. You can find our list of
access numbers here. If you are in Sherman for example, you
would type "atdt8133210".
3. Select the com port that your modem is on. If you have a plug-and-play
modem, refer to the
Plug and Play How To on the http://www.linuxdoc.org Web site.
4. Select the port speed. If you have a 56k modem, we suggest you select
115200. If you use
ISDN, select 460800. Using a port speed greater than 115200 with a 56k modem will not
yield
better results.
5. At the callback screen, select "No".
6. The default modem string should be "'AT&FH0", then hit
Enter on the "Modem Init String" page.
7. Type "texoma.net" on the "Domain Name" page.
8. At the DNS IP Address page, type "209.151.96.2". (NO QUOTES)
9. On the next page, select "Script".
10. On the 'expect' page, type "ogin:" and hit Enter. For the
'send' page, type in your user name
with no spaces, no capital letters, and no '@texoma.net', then hit Enter. On the next
'expect'
page, type "word:" and hit Enter. On the 'send' page, type in your password and
hit Enter
twice.
11. You should be able to type "ppp-go" and hear your modem
start dialing.
12. To disconnect, type "ppp-off".
