How to Verify and
Change Dial-Up Networking
Settings for Windows 95/98
From the desktop, double-click on the "My
Computer" icon.
Double-click on the "Dial-Up Networking"
icon (inside the "My Computer" window).
Slide your mouse pointer over the connection you wish to
verify, (it may say Internet Texoma in the name) and single-click with the RIGHT mouse
button. A drop-down menu will appear.
Click on "Properties" (the last
entry).
Make sure there is NOT a check in the
"Use country code and area code" check box (it may also say
"Dial using area code and country code" or "Use
area code and Dial Properties"). Steps 5 & 6 Screen Shot
In the "Telephone Number"
entry box (the white box below the words "Telephone Number") is
the phone number that the computer dials to connect to the Internet. Internet Texoma
offers local access in over 120 cities in North Texas. Please be sure you have chosen one
of our access numbers that is local for your area (refer to the list below). Internet Texoma is not responsible for long
distance charges. Type in the number that is a local call. If your phone
company requires you to dial the area code, you will need to place the area code in the
"Telephone Number" entry box in front of the phone number.

You will see three tabs at the top of the window: "General",
"Server Types" and "Scripting".
Click on the "Server Types" tab. The "Server Types"
tab will move to the front.
Select "PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet"
(it may also say "PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98") from the
drop-down menu to the right of "Type of Dial-Up Server:". Steps 7 - 17

If you have a Domain
hosted by Internet Texoma, place a check in the "Log on to network"
check box. Otherwise, leave this box blank. If you do not know if you have a domain with
Internet Texoma
you probably dont.
Place a check in the "Enable software compression"
check box.
Make sure there is NOT a check in the "Require
encrypted password" check box.
Make sure there is NOT a check in the "Require
data encryption" check box. (Windows
98)
Make sure there is NOT a check in the "Record
a log file for this connection" check box. (Windows 98)
Make sure there is NOT a check in the "NetBEUI"
check box.
Make sure there is NOT a check in the "IPX/SPX
Compatible" check box.
Place a check in the "TCP/IP"
check box.
Click on the "TCP/IP Settings"
button. The TCP/IP Settings window will appear.
Select "Server assigned IP address".
Select "Specify name server addresses"
The DNS and WINS entry boxes will become active.
Type "209.151.96.2" in the "Primary
DNS:" entry box. (NO QUOTES)
Type "209.151.96.66" in the "Secondary
DNS:" entry box. (NO QUOTES)
Type "0.0.0.0" in the "Primary WINS:"
entry box. (NO QUOTES)
Type "0.0.0.0" in the "Secondary
WINS:" entry box. (NO QUOTES)
Place a check in the "Use IP header compression"
check box.
Place a check in the "Use default gateway
on remote network" check box.
Click on the "OK" button. The TCP/IP
Settings window will disappear.
Click on the "OK" button. The
"Properties" window will disappear.
Y our Dial-Up Networking settings are now correct. Repeat
the above steps for each of the Internet Texoma connections you may have.
