How To Verify And Change Your
Netscape Communicator Mail Settings


Note: The following instructions for Netscape Communicator are designed for Netscape Communicator Version 4.04.  If you have an older version of Netscape Communicator, these instructions may still be used for some guidance in checking your settings.


1.  From inside Netscape Communicator, slide your mouse pointer over the word "Edit" (upper left corner, in-between "File" and "View") and single-click with your left mouse button.  A drop-down menu will appear.

2.  Slide your mouse pointer over the word "Preferences..." (the last entry) and single-click with the left mouse button.  The "Preferences" window will appear.

3.  Slide your mouse pointer over the words "Mail & Groups" (in the "Category:" entry box) and double-click with the left mouse button until the tree is extended.

4.  Slide your mouse pointer over the word "Identity" (inside the "Category:" entry box, below "Mail & Groups" and above "Messages") and single-click with the left mouse button. "Identity" will become highlighted.

5.  Slide your mouse pointer over the "Your name:" entry box (the white area below the words "Your name:") and single-click with the left mouse button.  Type your name as you would like it to appear on your e-mails. You may also leave this line blank if you desire. Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

6.  Slide your mouse pointer over the “Email address:” entry box (the white area below the words "Email address:") and single-click with the left mouse button. Type in your e-mail address. (NO CAPS) Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

7.  Slide your mouse pointer over the "Reply-to address:" entry box (the white box area below the word "Reply-to address") and single-click with the left mouse button. Type in your e-mail address.  You may also leave this line blank if you desire. Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

8.  Slide your mouse pointer over the “Organization:” entry box (The white area below the word "Organization:") and single-click with the left mouse button. Type your company or club name as you would like it to appear on your e-mails. You may also leave this line blank if you desire. Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

9.  Slide your mouse pointer over the word "Mail Server" (inside the "Category:" entry box, below "Messages" and above "Groups Server") and single-click with the left mouse button. "Mail Server" will become highlighted.

10.  Slide your mouse pointer over the "Mail server user name:" entry box (the white area next to "Mail server user name:") and single-click with the left mouse button.  Type your user name. (NO CAPS) Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

11.  Slide your mouse pointer over the “Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:” entry box (the white area next to the words "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:") and single-click with the left mouse button. Type in "smtp.texoma.net". (NO CAPS) Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

12.  Slide your mouse pointer over the “Incoming mail server:” entry box (the white area next to the words "Incoming mail server:") and single-click with the left mouse button. Type in "mail.texoma.net". (NO CAPS) Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

13.  Slide your mouse pointer over the bullet (the white circle) to the left of the words "POP3 (messages and folders are kept locally, on the hard drive)" and single-click until there is a black dot within the bullet. Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

14.  Slide your mouse pointer over the check box (the white square) to the left of the words "Leave messages on server after retrieval" and single-click until there is not a check in the box. Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

15.  Slide your mouse pointer over the "More options" button (lower right corner, above the "Help" button) and single-click with the left mouse button. The "More Mail Server Preferences" window will appear.

16.  Slide your mouse pointer over the check box (the white square) to the left of the words "Remember my mail password" and single-click until there is a check in the box. Refer to the image above for guidance if necessary.

17.  Slide your mouse pointer over the "OK" button (lower right corner next to "Cancel") and single-click with the left mouse button. The "More Mail Server Preferences" window will disappear.

18.  Slide your mouse pointer over the "OK" button (lower right corner next to "Cancel") and single-click with the left mouse button. The "Preferences" window will disappear.

19.  Your Netscape Communicator mail settings are now correct. Slide your mouse pointer over the "Mailbox" icon (lower right hand corner comm8.jpg (1080 bytes) ) and single-click with the left mouse button. The "Inbox" will appear.

20.  Slide your mouse pointer over the "Get Msg" icon comm7.jpg (2082 bytes) (on the toolbar, upper left corner) and single-click with the left mouse button to check your e-mail.
